Penny University

IMO, this cafe is kinda overrated.
Sure it's cheap(er than others), but I don't feel like it was worth my visit.
That said, I didn't order any lattes from there la, so....perhaps their lattes would make it worthwhile?

Pardon the lack of pictures here, didn't bring the camera out, so I had to make do with Note 2.
Any good and easy to use compact camera to rec?

Ordered the Marmite toast with poached egg.

Oh my, it was soooo salty, I left a mouth of the bread on the plate :X
I love Marmite when I was young, I love it in my porridge and on my toast.
But this was soo salty, I just couldn't stomach it...furthermore, the toast was pretty small.
Bf had a bite of it and cringed - Marmite isn't his thing (he's like a frog in a well, he has never ate Marmite before. Huh?!)
Poached egg was normal, and the salad, kinda meh since there wasn't much dressing.
IMO, this plate costs me $4.50 simply because the portion is really small.
But I shan't complain further since it's comparatively cheaper compared to what other cafes price!

Bf ordered the earl grey tea, which I thought he should have just brewed it at home -.-
I was rather intrigued with the pot la, haha, simply because you can brew the tea for 2 minutes before pressing the button to release the tea down.
Okay, I guess there's no need for my explanations

Ordered a slice of coffee choc cake at $4.50

It was a really thin slice, don't expect it to be a generous portion.
Felt that the cake had quite some different tastes to it: the top coat was chocolatey, hence it was sweet; the centre and the bottom of the cake was rather salty.

Another downside was the lack of 3g and Singtel connection.
Felt as if like I was in Malaysia; no idea why the connection was that bad.
Luckily there was free wifi for me to tap on for instagram.

Headed to I12 Katong after that, which was quite some distance away.
Spotted the famous Katong Laksa with a picture of Gordon Ramsy too.

Well, would probably not head to Katong area so soon since it's inconvenient for me!

A total disappointment - Kith Cafe

"I'm never coming here again (Kith Cafe)", I told my bf.
This was my second visit, with my first being there solely for drinks.
For one, there's the disappointing service.
Two, the taste of the food (at least for the spaghetti I've tried) was bad
Three, the price.

Service wise, I believe there's so much room for improvement.
Sat down and the waiters were busy chatting.
I asked for warm water, but was given a cool one instead.

Ordered the beef tenderloin spaghetti.

The first mouth of beef was good, but the spaghetti was a little too firm for my liking.
The whole taste was salty, salty and salty.
Subsequent mouth of the spaghetti made me question why I came to this cafe in the first place.
Also, the price of this pasta wasn't even worth my money.
Since this cafe included GST and service charge (why am I paying for the service?), the total cost of my pasta was $25.30.
Yup, please go somewhere else for a better-tasting dinner.

Din Tai Fung - Breadtalk HQ, Tai Seng

I've so much love for xiao long baos that I MUST eat it once I see it
I've tried the "real deal" in Shanghai (had to queue so long, depending on your luck, for the famous xlb at Cheng Huang Miao), and it was really good :)

I've been to various DTF's branches, including the newly opened one at JEM (their ramen sucks man), and XLB is my must order.
Chanced upon DTF @ Breadtalk HQ, so we decided to queue for it.
Mind you, it was a 20 minutes wait - so weird for a ulu pandan place like Tai Seng, but then again, there's so many office workers there...and it was the lunch hour...

Here's my review, skip the mains and just order the XLBs and whatever dumplings they offer.
Our mains were so disappointing, the only dishes which made us WOOOO AHHHH were XLB and this Citibank discounted item called the "Spicy Chilli Crab Dumplings".
Me thinks, (and my bf thinks), the spicy chilli crab dumplings own XLBs.
Sorry XLB, the spicy chilli crab dumplings were better than you, simply because their juices were so damn yummy + they look prettier than you.
10 xlb wasn't enough for us, because the mains didn't please haha
But I honestly thought Shanghai's XLB is way better, because they had more juice :D

Love this! It was at a discounted $5 plus for 4 of these.
Love the soup, wasn't spicy at all!

To be fair, our mains ought to show themselves too.
BF told me "their dan chao fan is really good la", so I ordered it.
Turns out, it wasn't so good leh, my bf said their standard dropped.
The rice were of course different from the Thai rice I've at home, but I didn't find the dish delicious.
However, the rice does look appetizing, being yellowy and eggy....you know what I mean?

Didn't finish the plate la, because it wasn't that nice.
For $6+++, fry these at home man!

BF ordered the Dan Dan Mian.
The first mouth was so good, but subsequently I got sick of it.

Am currently sourcing out for XLB and Chinese food restaurants to bring my parents, for my first pay treat.
Well, I haven't receive any offers, but I can dream right? Haha!

Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King Four Seasons

Want to try price-worthy tonkotsu (pork-based) ramen?
Then, you'll have to try Keisuke's.

It was my first time to the Keisuke's chain, located at Bugis Village.
Why Four Seasons, you may ask, and the answers lies in the restaurant’s ramen creations which are inspired by the four seasons.

FYI, there are free flow of eggs and spicy bean sprouts.
I only had 1 egg though, not a big fan, but I do love the bean sprouts!

Grind your own seeds and add to your ramen!

I had the most popular Tonkotsu King, and my bf had the Summer ramen.

And, look! The King is good for our skin! *beams*

The King's soup was really flavourful, and I really loved the well-marinated pork slices!
Felt that the portion was a bit too much for me, but I manged to finish it though.
Bf felt the portion was small, LOL!

I knew my bf would order Summer because it's the only spicy ramen.
I do think the spiciness added more flavour to the broth, but I probably wouldn't be able to stomach the whole spicy bowl myself!
However, my bf thought the spice was not spicy at all!
The Summer ramen features minced pork, with slices of char siew, blank fungus and spring onion.

Another must order is the Green Tea Coke, which is only available in Keisuke!

Will probably head back again, to other outlets with my boyfriend!

Address: 158 Rochor Road, Bugis Village Singapore 188433.

Commune Cafe & Bistro No.50 (Millenia Walk)

Looking for an affordable cafe at the CBD area?
Head to Millenia Walk's Commune Cafe.

Prices are pretty pocket-friendly.
Bought my Cappuccino for $5, and my bf's iced cafe mocha for $5.50.
(Photos cannot be taken without permission)

Our caffeine were too bitter for my liking, so I'd to pour in 2 sachets of sugar lol

Unfortunately, the mushroom panini was unavailable, so were the others like wraps (N)
Only the chicken panini was left.
Really love the toasted bread, and the chicken was pretty good too.
Most probably going back again if I'm in that area!
